LET ME IN

This documentary tells the story of Ruth, her journey to higher education and the people who help her along the way. Ruth came to the UK from Nigeria at 4 years old and had gone through primary and secondary education. When applying to university, Student Finance England denied her application for a loan claiming her status classified her as an international student. Unable to afford these high fees, she faced the possibility of having to drop out of university and give up on her dreams of becoming a therapist. In desperate attempts to continue her education, Ruth turned to her university and charity, Let Us Learn, for help. Let Us Learn provided Ruth with advice on her next steps and after tireless campaigning and research, Ruth was able to secure a scholarship from her university. By bringing awareness to these cases, we want migrants to know that there is hope and they should not be discouraged.

Only 24 universities in the UK provide any sort of funding for migrant students who have been denied a student loan. These students trying to fulfil their dreams are turned away at the doors of these institutions. We call on universities to consider providing opportunities for these bright, young individuals who have so much to offer society.
